Chapter Six

The Red Suit

As Nicholas grew older, his midnight journeys through the freezing winter winds required sturdier protection against the elements. Recognizing how much time he spent out in the snow, Bertram Marsden gifted him a special outfit.

Marsden had carefully stitched together a warm, heavy coat and trousers dyed a vibrant, cheerful red, trimmed generously with thick white fur to keep out the bitter northern chill. He paired it with a close-fitting cap and sturdy boots.

Donning the bright red suit for his nocturnal travels, Nicholas found he could move through the snowy night completely unseen against the white landscape, while remaining warm and cozy. The villagers soon came to recognize that flash of crimson and white as the hallmark of their beloved benefactor.
